NEURON, 2024

A charcoal drawing of a dog made in a sketchbook reveals inconsistencies, such as the front legs of a horse and a missing right hind leg. In an era where design is generated, streamlined, and simplified, is our aesthetic appreciation of these inconsistencies and imperfections a form of error? This work addresses this contemporary question using charcoal, one of the most primitive analog techniques.

チャコールドローイングによってスケッチブックに描かれた犬。そこには、馬の前足や欠けた右後ろ足などの不合理を垣間見ることができる。デザインが生成され、効率化・簡略化されていくジェネラティブな時代において、この不整合性・不完全性を完璧と感じる私たちの美意識はエラーなのだろうか。本作品では、その現代的な問いかけを、最も原始的なアナログ技法であるチャコールを用いて表現している。
